6TH DISTRICT CANDIDATES SPLIT ON HOW TO MAKE HEALTH CARE AFFORDABLE

September 2026 · Health Care

Candidates for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District agree that affordable health coverage is a major concern, but they propose very different solutions. The two leading Democrats said restoring higher subsidies for Affordable Care Act plans would be a priority. Republican state Sen. Rick Edmonds said he would not support restoring them. The candidates also disagree on new Medicaid work requirements, which take effect in January and will require many enrollees to earn at least $580 a month or complete 80 hours of work, volunteering, or school.
